Philosophy
From the perspective of orthodox medicine, health is the absence of illness.
We believe that this definition of health does not go far enough.
What does it mean to feel healthy?
If someone cannot be medically diagnosed as suffering from an illness, does this mean they are always brimming with energy and joie de vivre? Does it mean they feel completely and utterly “well”?
Your own sense of how you feel is important!
Likewise, is someone with a chronic illness or disability fundamentally “sick”, or are they just obliged to feel that way?
Whether we are sick or healthy depends more on how we feel than on any medical diagnosis.
This fact naturally entails a variety of benefits and disadvantages.
However, we are all capable of exploiting its benefits by improving our health.
We do this by investing our energies in being and staying healthy – and, for a time, getting healthy, if necessary.
